8 Great Rooms with a View in St. Augustine & Ponte Vedra
You’ll love these views on Florida’s Historic Coast.
While there’s so much to see and do on Florida’s Historic Coast, these great rooms offer such breathtaking views it’s easy to see why visitors prefer to linger inside a bit longer.
1. St. George Inn
A touch of elegance and charming comfort make this historic inn a classic in St. Augustine. And talk about iconic views! It doesn’t get more historic than this. Imagine a commanding, unobstructed view of the 17th century Spanish-built Castillo de San Marcos, the Matanzas Inlet or Castillo Plaza right from the balcony of your suite. And you’re right in the middle of all the Nights of Lights holiday displays.
The Castillo King rooms are luxuriously appointed, welcoming you with fine linens, antique ceiling fans, plush-top mattresses and all sorts of resort-style amenities. But it’s the view from your rocking chair on the balcony that will sweep you off your feet. Go ahead, indulge, drink it all in over a glass of wine. Tomorrow is another day, when you can catch the sunrise over the Matanzas Bay and enjoy your breakfast with a view from your balcony. Then, head over to the Castillo and immerse yourself in the historic stories and experiences that took place in this national monument. And after a day of exploring all the ancient city has to offer, your great room with a view will provide the perfect respite.
2. Bayfront Marin House Bed & Breakfast Inn
Located in the heart of St. Augustine’s Historic District, this delightful inn is central to everything you want to do in the ancient city, especially during Nights of Lights, when you can walk to everything.
The Josephina Wedding Suite is part of the 1790 Sanchez House, a wonderfully preserved Spanish home right on the bay. The room is a spacious 1100 square feet, featuring a large sitting area, an antique wooden bar, 9’wooden doors, a charming fireplace and original floors. The separate bedroom is ultra-romantic with a hand forged iron bed fit for a king (or queen).
Best of all, you can enjoy the lights from the suite’s 30-foot long, private porch, and relax on a peaceful porch swing or rocker, all overlooking the bay. It doesn’t get any better or more beautiful than this.
3. The Collector Luxury Inn & Gardens
Art, history, romance, The Collector Inn has it all. Located just steps away from the sights, sounds and attractions of the ancient city, the inn somehow feels worlds away from anything else. Its unique setting and story put this award-winning inn in a class by itself. Comprised of nine historic buildings and 30 individually appointed guestrooms, each accommodation incorporates architectural elements and décor that reflects the property’s 18th century construction.
From the back porch of your suite in the Rose House you can imagine waking up in a small town in Spain circa 1600. The bricked walkways along with the coquina walls of The Well Craft Cocktail bar remind you that you are in St. Augustine, America's oldest city. But is it 1790? Or 2020? After an evening of soaking in the dazzling displays during Nights of Lights, perhaps a soak in the garden courtyard’s heated pool and a glass of wine at the bar will help you decide.
4. Beacher’s Lodge Oceanfront Suites
If you love waking up to sunrises on the beach and the sound of ocean waves as you sleep, this is the place for you. Located on Crescent Beach, Beacher’s Lodge offers great rooms with fantastic views. The Balcony Suite 422, is one of the largest one bedroom suites available, equipped to be a beach home away from home with full kitchen and even fuller ocean views. This one-bedroom suite has a king bed in the private bedroom and the living room space is oceanfront.
Decorated in tropical tones with a balcony directly facing the ocean, a sliding glass door is your picture window of the ocean. With a heated oceanfront pool, the natural sand dunes with swaying sea oats and the miles of pristine beach sand, there is really nothing left for your heart to desire. Some rooms are pet friendly, and there are plenty of options to choose from. Check the property map, to choose your own suite and location for the spot that’s perfect for you.
5. Ponte Vedra Inn & Club
Located in the affluent oceanside community of Ponte Vedra Beach, this grand dame of northeast Florida’s Atlantic coast, which has welcomed guests to its idyllic shores since 1928, has unveiled two new landmark complements to their oceanfront accommodations. And it couldn’t come at a better time.
Offering modern beachside luxury, the Ocean House and Peyton House are steps away from the famed Ocean Course and The Racquet Club. Each room has sweeping views of the ocean and ample space to relax and luxuriate inside. These well-appointed accommodations are designed in a chic, southern coastal fashion that reflects the spirit and heritage of this elegant resort. And each room and suite seamlessly extends to generous private terraces or patios that lead directly to the beach.
It’s no wonder guests feel pampered as they discover a world of elevated oceanfront lodging paired with gracious, attentive service, fine dining and endless leisure, health and beauty pursuits.
6. Edgewater Inn
Just a short walk or drive across the Bridge of Lions will take you to Anastasia Island and one of the best spots for enjoying a view of the St. Augustine skyline. Any time of year, this wonderful location offers visitors a commanding view of the Matanzas Bay, restaurants along the bayfront, the Castillo de San Marcos and The Great Cross in the distance. It’s especially enchanting during Nights of Lights, when millions of tiny lights in the Historic District and dazzling decorations on boats are reflected in the water.
A private second floor waterfront room, with its own balcony and two Adirondack chairs, is an ideal spot to catch all the action. The room offers a king bed and quite possibly the best views of St. Augustine’s skyline at sunset. The Inn also has first floor waterfront rooms with either one king bed or two double beds. You’ll enjoy the private deck on the waterfront with a small sandy beach where you can take in some birdwatching and spot native marine life.
7. Casa Monica Resort & Spa
A restored landmark hotel listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the castle-like Spanish architecture will dazzle you and draw you in. But that’s just the beginning. Enter the Anastasia Suite at the Casa Monica Resort & Spa and with one quick glance you can take in the history of three grand Henry Flagler Hotels built in the 1800’s. To your left, Lightner Museum, originally the Hotel Alcazar and to your right, Flagler College, originally the Ponce de Leon Hotel.
This two-story gem features a dramatic spiral staircase leading from the first floor up to the loft style bedroom and second bathroom. The first floor offers guests a generous living area, wet-bar and full bath. Once upstairs, you are greeted by a king-sized bed framed by an intricate, one-of-a-kind headboard. The over-sized, ensuite master bath features an enormous vanity and lovely tiled shower. Both floors offer beautiful views of historic, downtown St. Augustine that shouldn’t be missed during Nights of Lights. It’s simply magical. No wonder the Anastasia Suite is a favorite for newly married honeymoon couples.
8. Marker 8 Hotel & Marina
This beautiful oasis on the water offers magnificent views of the downtown skyline. Lovely gardens and a pool make this an easy choice for visitors looking for luxury, together with panoramic views.
Guests can enjoy a waterfront room with either a patio or balcony to view the sunset over St. Augustine’s picturesque skyline, as well as during the dazzling holiday displays during Nights of Lights. Each room is fully equipped with a refrigerator, walk-in rain shower, plush bedding, 40-inch TV, and special amenities. You don’t want to miss the hotel’s breakfast, served with a spectacular morning view. In the afternoons, relax by the spa pool or enjoy hors d’oeuvres and wine by the fire pit.
