Love is in the Air!
And on Florida’s Historic Coast, it’s the perfect time to take the romance outside.
St. Augustine is one of the most romantic towns in the world. Whether it’s the old world charm of its ancient brick-lined streets or the breathtaking views overlooking the bay front, it’s easy to see why so many people fall head over heels for each other—and the city. So, if you’re in the mood for a romantic getaway, you’ve come to the right place. Here are a few of our favorite ways to celebrate each other while enjoying the great outdoors.
Day One
Even if you’re not into camping, you might want to try a little glamping on the beach. Anastasia State Park offers some of the prettiest beach campsites in America. Choose from 129 sites for RVs and tents within the beautiful maritime hammock, just steps or a bike ride from the pristine Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy the day SUP paddle boarding or kayaking or just catching some rays on the white quartz sand. Anastasia Watersports will set you up for a memorable water adventure.
Foodies looking for adventures of the culinary kind can eat, drink and experience St. Augustine to their heart’s content with 3-hour pairing tours. Choose from strolling tours, chauffeured tours or even horse-drawn tours with The Tasting Tours. You’ll get to indulge in the best local cuisine perfectly paired with delicious wine at the finest, hand-selected venues.
How about some live music under the stars? You’re in luck. The St. Augustine Amphitheatre—or the AMP as the locals call it—is an award-winning music venue that hosts some of the best known musicians and bands from classic rock to country and R&B to zydeco. Buddy Guy, John Legend, the B-52s, Modest Mouse and Trace Adkins among others have all raised the roof on this state-of-the-art outdoor theater.
Afterwards, keep the romance going at Casa de Vino 57 where you can enjoy a glass of wine and charcuterie board in a secret garden as you listen to some live music under the stars.
Day Two
Rise and shine and wake up to the open air vibes at the Artisan “Pop-up” Market on Airstream Row in Vilano. Shoppers can stroll up and down rows of airstreams browsing local artisan wares, local produce, flowers, baked goods and all kinds of handmade arts and crafts. Surely, you’ll find a special little treasure for your true love. Admission is free and takes place on the third Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Not far at Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor, stop in at Kingfish Grill for some exquisite sushi or fresh caught local seafood. The spectacular waterfront views are as breathtaking as the food as you relax and enjoy the gentle breezes while dining al fresco.
Where to next, lovebirds? How about some bird-watching? Take A1A North along the coast to the GTM Research Reserve. The Visitor Center will welcome you with lots of information on this beautiful and unique natural landscape that is home to a wide diversity of plants, animals and sea creatures. Outside, nine miles of nature trails are the perfect place to hike and spot native birds and wildlife. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your binoculars. You’re bound to see some local denizens along the marshes and estuaries.
Now that you’ve worked up an appetite, bring it to the Intracoastal. The Palm Valley Fish Camp near Ponte Vedra Beach has just what you’re craving. Fresh local oysters on the half shell, true southern cuisine, outdoor seating, craft cocktails and a spectacular view of the waterway. Not to mention, service that makes you feel like a regular. And you will be.
Finally, what could be more romantic than a sunset cruise along the Matanzas? Hop aboard the White Pelican as Red Boat Tours presents you with the highlight of a romantic outdoor getaway—the beauty of the Ancient City skyline that’s attracted all kinds of lovers of the outdoors for over 450 years.
