Overview
First Baptist Church of St. Augustine is one of the city's historic places of worship. Established in 1887, it grew out of the efforts of freed Black residents during Reconstruction to create a community centered on faith and fellowship.
The church has served as a cornerstone of spiritual and cultural life in St. Augustine's Black community for over a century. Its congregation played an active role in the Civil Rights Movement, hosting meetings and providing support to activists seeking equality and justice.
