Every August on Vilano Beach, the Florida Skimboarding Pro/Am Tournament draws athletes from around the world to showcase their skills and compete for top titles in this thrilling sport.
Run, drop, slide. Nothing to it, right? Wrong! Skimboarding is an athletic sport that requires skill, speed and fearless competitiveness. That’s why athletes and amateurs from more than 75 beaches throughout Florida, the USA and the world come to this premier Pro/Am event to compete for the top titles in the sport.
Watch them as they defy gravity, spin mid-air and maneuver their skim boards over crashing waves. Whether you’re a spectator or a competitor looking to earn bragging rights, you’ll agree there’s no more thrilling way to spend a weekend at the beach and make lasting memories.
Join us at the Vilano Beach ramp. Come early, stay all day. The tournament takes place both days as athletes display their rad skills. Admission is free for spectators. Please note there is currently no on beach parking allowed at Vilano Beach.
The Florida Skimboarding Pro/Am Tournament is the only competition that allows riders two chances to advance before being eliminated. There are categories for all ages and skill levels.
On the Vilano Beach Pier, say hello and take a selfie with the Bird of Happiness. Then you’ll want to stop by the Vilano Beach Artisan Market Walk on Vilano Road open from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday. Local artisan-made items and more on display for sale. Free parking and admission.
If you’re hankering for some seafood, there’s no better spot than Vilano Beach for the freshest sea-to-table cuisine. Try Kingfish Grill for their wonderful sushi bar. Aunt Kate’s on the River and Cap’s on the Water offer stunning views of the Intracoastal Waterway to complement their fresh catch menus.
At sunset, you might want to cap off the day with a refreshing cocktail at the Rooftop Bar in the newly opened Hyatt Place Vilano Beach. The view is as spectacular as the day you’ve just had.
