St. Johns County will begin to temporarily close two vehicle beach access ramps to Butler Beach Reach as a part of a comprehensive FEMA Dune Enhancement Project. The Butler Beach Reach includes the shoreline from Ocean Hammock Park through Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort, in addition to a 1,500-foot section from Mary Street in the southbound direction.
The Ocean Trace Road and A Street vehicle beach access ramps will be closed during the restoration project. All vehicle traffic in the area will be able to enter and exit the beach at the Dondanville Road vehicle beach access ramp.
This project will enhance the dune system by adding sand at the seaward edge of the existing dune, planting sea oats and supporting vegetation, and creating a more uniform front to the dune system along qualifying sections of the beaches of Ponte Vedra, South Ponte Vedra, Butler and Crescent Beach.
The Butler Beach construction is scheduled to begin July 2023 with an estimated fall completion date.
Crescent Beach, South Ponte Vedra Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach construction project dates will be announced in the near future.
