Ponte Vedra Fishing
Explore the many spots along our scenic coast, marshes and rivers where fishing is more than a sport. It’s simply another way to enjoy the beautiful nature around you.
Hidden along Florida’s Historic Coast are some great hot spots where anglers can cast a line to try their luck at catching dinner. Ponte Vedra has a few of these spots where anglers can target redfish, flounder, trout, whiting, pompano, and other species that are fun to catch and provide great table-fare. Take your catch to one of these restaurants for a line and dine experience.
For some, the calm waters of the intracoastal are more inviting while others prefer the excitement of fishing in the surf at our beaches. You can find information about many of the species commonly caught in the area, and the best techniques used to catch them.
Bait and tackle shops are great resources to discover what species to focus on and what baits to use for them.
Popular Fishing Locations in Ponte Vedra:
Nocatee Landing
Tucked away in Nocatee Preserve this localized fishing spot offers great shore-based fishing. This requires fishing on the intracoastal waterway along vast mud banks and scattered oysters that provide great habitat for flounder and redfish. You can find more information about Nocatee Landing here.
Guana Lake
Truly one of the most beautiful areas to fish on Florida’s Historic Coast is Guana Lake and dam. This area is located inside of GTM Research Reserve and provides exceptional fishing lake side and on the intracoastal side of the dam. There are options to rent kayaks and paddle boards to explore deeper into the lake too. This area is unique because large boats are prohibited in the lake and around the dam, allowing kayak anglers to find parts of old Florida few people experience.
Mickler’s Landing
If surf fishing is more of your style, Mickler’s Landing is the place to be. This area is located on Ponte Vedra Beach. Anglers often have good luck in this area because it doesn’t receive as much pressure as the other beaches. There are facilities and picnic tables in the area too making this a great spot to bring your family!
Mickler’s Wharf at Old Palm Valley Landing
Located on Canal Blvd. in Palm Valley, this small park provides history and a great location to fish from. On this part of the Intracoastal Waterway, you will be surprised by the beauty and abundant fishery at this location.
Charter Fishing
If you are not looking for the DIY experience, there are charter fishing guides in the Ponte Vedra area that would be happy to show you around. They can provide the knowledge, tackle, and boat to bring you along for a successful day on the water. You can find more information about charter fishing in the Ponte Vedra Beach here.
Ponte Vedra offers a lot of shore-based fishing areas for the anglers looking for more of an adventure. Not all locations have names and sometimes they are not very easy to get to, but local bait shops and other anglers may provide some secret honey holes to go check out.
